First Ascent: Alone On The Wall
Twenty-three-year-old Alex Honnold is taking the high-stakes sport of free solo climbing to new heights.
Climbing truly massive walls without a rope, and zero chance of survival if he falls, Alex is calm and fearless (except when it comes to girls). But attempting the 2,000-foot wall of Half Dome, the greatest free solo ever attempted, would finally teach Alex the meaning of fear.
Released in 2010. Directors: Peter Mortimer, Nick Rosen. Excerpt from the First Ascent series.
Thrilling to watch!. With all the sponsors behind this sport and this star performer; when will Alex Honnold be driving a motor home?
Like, whats up with that!.
Wow! that’s crazy!!!
How does he get down?
Right?!
You can walk down a trail on the other side
That’s sounds like a more logical way to get to the top.
Without a doubt the greatest athlete in the world, rock on Alex!
Bummer…vid has been taken down :-(
Hi Madsen, good to hear from you.
I’ve replaced the broken link with a working one. Thanks.
Excellent…thanks! :-)
Holy smokes…I suffer terribly from fear of heights and this was probably one of the hardest vids to watch…ever…An adrenaline rush…sitting here in my living room…Great vid!
I completely agree- it made me incredibly uncomfortable to just watch this- I almost had to turn it off. I for sure do not understand it.
I had sweaty palms and feet throughout the documentary.
Fantastic accomplishment and great video. I see Alex’s effort to control the mind and think how useful this would be in every aspect of normal life. Great, Scary and Inspirational!
Holy shit. Only watching this docu was so thrilling.
Great video of an awesome sport. I think there is really no other sport or athletic challange that can be compared to what you see here.
You have to be 100% physically fit (also in necessary in other extrem sports) but staying mentaly focussed for more that 2 hours where every little wrong grap will kill you…. that’s absolutly AWESOME.
you happen to know where i can watch this documentary? I’ve been looking for months
please fix this video!!! ive tried to show so many people and every time it doesnt work
Looks like an awesome video – I wish it was still on YouTube but it’s gone :(
Dear almighty master, Alex,
Forgive me for this unorthodox request, but could you, the great advanced rock climber dude, recommend any advanced apparel in which shall be placed on my feet which will increase my noobish capabilities in the rock climbing arts. I am a educationist/guide, and part time model, and I am very poor; please take this into consideration when advising my adjudication.
Sincerely,
Your humble admirer, Ms. Forrest
PS: I think you are quite the babe, and your optimism on getting girls is about to pay off! You rock climbed right into my heart ;) Forever and always <3
PSS: My prodigies would be very disappointed if you were to ever decline my request(s) ;)
That wall looked super incredible. I’m a new climber but I absolutely loooooove climbing, I go whenever I can! Hopefully one day I can accomplish incredible routes like that. Well, maybe not that high :)
so sick
Craziest thing Ive ever seen….
I like that special green checkered climbing shirt…i wore that to work yesterday.
bullshit at 8:08 he put his feet on som metal in the wall.
Those bolts dude are for those who use ropes for climbing its called sport climbing, that guy is making free climbing, means no rope, if you look closely you will notice he put his shoe toe on a small non visible hole in the wall which its called smear
Alex is proof positive that if you are not certain regarding your own abilities, then don’t even think about it, let alone attempt it. An absolutely astonishing display of climbing ability. Rock on Alex! (great vid)
P.S: There are old pilots, and bold pilots, but no old bold pilots. Know when to say when Alex.
I love to watch Alex climb ….. TRULY AMAZING and GIFTED!!!!
This was an incredible short film, but made me really dizzy and put butterflies in my stomach watching him climb so high without any safety equipment. That climber is the best of the best and is getting better.
i know that feeling. for me, it’s knitting. i’ll look up, and all of a sudden, it’s like 3 a.m. and where did the day go? and i haven’t broken concentration until the moment i realize that it’s already TOMORROW! it used to be lace crochet, but for the past several years, it’s been lace knitting. not life-threatening, but the feeling is exactly the same. i get you.
One of the greatest stunts — and feats of athleticism — of all time.
crazy how people are able to do that. Put their life in danger and be able to understand the stress. Praying that he stays safe.
