The Choice is Ours
This two-part documentary film by Roxanne Meadows and Joel Holt explores the determinants of behavior to dispel the myths and prove that environment shapes human behavior. The film illustrates how social structures are what impose our choices and how our global monetary system has become obsolete and inefficient to satisfy the needs of most people.
Jacques Fresco, founder of The Venus Project states that if humans had common sense there would be no wars, hunger, poverty or the destruction of the environment. He believes that if we were able to put a man on the moon, surely we can solve these problems. Jeff Hoffman, a retired astronaut and professor of aerospace engineering, describes how over the period of 11 years of flying into outer space, he could see evidence of how the Amazon jungle is continually being deforested. Besides, at night it’s not unusual to constantly see agricultural burning all over the world. Another thing you really get a sense of is how thin the atmosphere is. The damage being done to the planet is not something that can be ignored, especially when seen from outer space.
For the first time in history, we have the capability, the technology, and the knowledge to achieve a global society in which there is abundance for everybody. According to statistics, population is expected to grow to 9 billion by the year 2040. What this means is that there is going to be a huge rise in the demand for resources such as energy, food, and water, more than ever before in history. However, we are presently depleting natural resources 50% faster than they can be renewed.
Add to all that our obsolete value systems that have provoked innumerable genocides and wars and one has to wonder what it will take for humans to wake up and do what needs to be done. Watch this poignant film now.
