The originators of hip hop took their music from block parties of to world wide radio waves within a short period of time. During the early years, the music and message explored humanity, politics, and street life. It was real and it was fun. But then something changed and the lyrics became a slave narrative of negativism, sensationalism, and blatant disrespect. What happened to hip hop?

For Afrika Bambaataa hip hop means the whole culture of the movement…the emceeing…the djaying…how you act, walk, look, talk are all part of the hiph hop culture…that funk…the groove…or that beat…it’s all part of hip hop.

It began with the beat of the drum. With the beat, came a voice for those who were not being heard, and from this voice, came a movement. Hip hop is a consciousness, a behavior, and a way of viewing the world.

Currently it’s the most pervasive music worldwide, but its roots have been forgotten and its message has been perverted. With hip hop in the spotlight, it’s time to put it back on track and return to its four principles: Peace, Love, Unity, and Having Fun.
