Science Moms
This is a short documentary about some mothers who demand that all decisions made regarding the wellbeing of one’s children be completely based on scientific facts and not on popular trends. The film explores topics such as cancer, organic foods, allergies, cancer, autism, vaccines, and much more.
These brave women are taking a stand against the fear-based parenting that our modern times have provoked. This constant worrying is actually taking mothers away from the job of enjoying their young children.
What’s the story behind this community? Well, it all started when a group of female scientists who happened to be mothers came together to set the record straight. The group included nurses, farmers, a molecular biologist, a neuroscientist, a plant geneticist, and science communicators, to name a few. Some well-known celebrities filmed a video speaking out against GMOs that was the cause of some distorted views regarding food. Because our culture idolizes celebrities even outside of their area of expertise, people seemed to be willing to blindly follow the ideas these celebrities endorsed.
Well, GMO is a process and not an added ingredient like a lot of people think. And the way scientists view GMO is very different from what the public has been led to believe. GMOs provide many health and environmental benefits and in fact some organic products have also been genetically modified.
A lot of people have been told that ‘organic’ means pesticide free. Nothing could be further from the truth. For instance, copper sulfate is extremely damaging to the environment, and yet it’s allowed in organic farming. The marketing behind organic farming has convinced people that it’s environmentally friendlier, but the data does not support that at all. In fact, there are no proven health benefits related to adapting an organic diet.
However, fear is good for business. When mothers are afraid that they might be harming their child, they willingly go into their pockets to buy a more expensive alternative because it’s natural for a parent to want to provide what’s best. Those who don’t jump immediately on the wagon are usually judged until guilt corners them. So these science moms decided to help other mothers make decisions based on science instead of fear.
The bottom line is that we all need to simply enjoy parenting and stop worrying about things that are not worth worrying about. Watch this thought-provoking documentary now.
